Profile of Vicente Fortaleza David
-
Some recollections by Jose
F. Rafols and from daughter Beverly David of Toronto,
CanadaVicente F.
David came to Sibale Island, Province of Romblon, located in the Central part of the
Philippines, when he was single. In Sibale he
worked with the municipal government to start up the
telecommunication system. During those days the only means of
communication to Romblon and Manila is through radio. Vic
started and maintained this system until 1969.
It is always a
tradition in Sibale that single men and women that are assigned
to this place never return back to their roots. Here they find
their love and it happened to Vic. She met Ophelia Fallarme, a
school teacher at the Central Concepcion Elementary School
and soon
their love blossomed and get married.
Sometime in 1969
Vic's family relocated to Manila, Philippines where he worked
with for the Ministry of Public Works and Highways. Vic retired
in 1992 as a Supervising Management and Audit Analyst after 20 years of service.
The couple has six children, Cherrie David Yamat who lives in
Las Vegas, Nevada, Beverly David who lives in Toronto, Canada,
and works with the Ontario College of Teachers, and Jessica
David who also resides in Toronto, Canada. The three sons
Roger David, Romeo David and Elias David are still in the
Philippines. He also has 13 grandchildren and a great
granddaughter.
Vic was recently
awarded "One of the Best Poet of 2004" for his entry of his
copyrighted poem, "Sibale the Beautiful", by the International of
Poetry based in Maryland, USA. Vic is
listed in "Sibale's First"
in the field of Literary and Poetry
Writers. Vic is
still busy writing poetry. |
